Frog Baby Shower Cake

So I had a request for a baby shower cake and cupcakes for this weekend.

The theme.....  frogs.

Hmmmmm.  How am I going to do this?  I did some pondering and I sketched this out....

Now that I've finished the cake, I am amazed at how close I managed to get it to look like my little sketch.   Here's the pictures I took (sorry, I meant to take better ones, but forgot my camera at home when I set it all up at the baby shower, so these are all ones I snapped on my phone quickly and one that a friend took at the shower)

Ice Cream cake for the twins - Hunger Games style

So, the other week, we decided to finally have a birthday party for the twins.   Finally. 
I must admit.... I didn't do a single thing to plan this party.   Emily and Elora planned it all.   The games, the activities, the food and even what the ice cream cake would look like.   That's right, they planned out the cake and Elora drew me a picture of what they wanted.   I kind of wish I took a picture of what the picture looked like, but I didn't.  Oh well.

Anyways, here's their cake. 
It's a cookies 'n cream ice cream cake.
Decorations on it are fondant.

Easy cake to decorate.  I actually had fun making the mockingjay logo.  Though I do wish that I had some gold luster dust.  Oh well.  Looks good without it though.

Calgary LDS Temple - 17 September 2012

It's been a long time since I've posted anything about the construction of the Calgary LDS Temple.  It's really coming along.  In fact, it's nearly done.  So close!!
The Open House is less than 2 weeks away now.  The official date is September 29th and goes until October 20th.

Top spire was lit up this morning.  First time we've seen that.  So pretty!!

Nikki & Ryan's Wedding

I love weddings.  Even more, I love weddings when they're for someone I love and care about.  

I was so happy to attend the wedding of Nikki and Ryan.  Nikki is my niece.

Their wedding was so lovely.  It was held in Canmore at the Nordic Centre.

We happened to run into them in Canmore after the wedding, while they were taking pictures.  I managed to capture this cute picture of them.  Such a cute couple!!

Fern and I offered to make Nikki and Ryan their wedding cake.  After all, it would be a shame if we didn't make something when we both make nice cakes, right?   Nikki said she would love that and basically said we could do anything we wanted.  She left it completely up to us...... 

This is what we came up with.  We were thrilled with how it turned out!

Cupcakes!  We had 2 different flavors of cupcakes.... berry cupcakes and a butter pecan pina colada cupcakes

It was a beautiful wedding.  I like to wish Nikki and Ryan all the best as they start their lives together as husband and wife.  We love you both so much!!   Congratulations!

July cakes

I made two cakes in July.  I'm a little slow in posting them.
It seems when it comes to cakes, it's all or nothing.  If I've got one cake to do in a weekend, it seems like it's inevitable that I'll have more than one for that weekend.

I had a baby shower I was attending and I volunteered to make a cake for it.  My husband knew this and I hear him asking me "how hard is it to make a spiderweb on cupcakes".... and a few other questions.  After a little while, it dawned on me that HE was considering making something for work and it wasn't something simple he wanted.  "Fine.... I'll do it for you." I hear me tell him.  Next thing I knew, he had a specific request for a cake with Dilbert and a spiderweb logo ("make sure the lines are perfectly lined up so you can see the 3D boxes in them.....")

Anyways..... one evening and two decorated cakes later.....

Both cakes are done completely in buttercream (except the pink blanket and facial features on the bear cake, those are fondant)

Rest In Peace Kelly

So, I've been MIA from my blog lately.  Have you missed me??
Well, there's a lot that has gone on recently.   This past week has been tiring and emotionally draining.  My Sister-in-law, Kelly, passed away.  It's been very difficult to wrap my mind around.  Especially since my brother, Scott, passed away almost 3 years ago and it was his wife that now joins him.  So, so sad.   Especially for my nephew and niece.

Today was Kelly's funeral.
My sister, Fern, and I put together a slideshow of Kelly's life..... a hard task for us to do, especially when it brought back so many painful memories of my brother.

We will never forget you Kelly.

May you rest in peace Kelly.  We will miss you.
